I read this book when I was in school so. I knew my unborn would love for me to read it to her.
I loved this book as a kid and just bought it for my sister's upcoming baby.
My baby was just not interested in this book, which was strange because he loves pictures of food. I think maybe he just wasn't interested in the caterpillar since it doesn't really have a facial expression or a face. He loves many other books just not this one, and for the price I was very dissapointed.
This is a fun read, short and beautifully illustrated. A wonderful addition to any child's library.
Children can relate to the way the caterpillar eats sweets, because when children eat too many sweets they get a bellyache, too. Carle wrote it originally as a book about a worm but after talking to his publisher they decided on a caterpillar. Many can remember it being read to them as children in school and at home. For example, "On Thursday he ate through four strawberries, but was still hungry." With this you could have the child count the objects as you read.
This book is over forty years old. The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is a children's classic picture book. In a small way the book works with basic mathematics as well. I really enjoyed reading this book again. Carle loves colors and loves nature, and you can see that throughout this book.
As the caterpillar eats through things, it names ho many he has eaten. It begins back memories of when I was a kid, and also reminds me of the simple beauty of nature. Eric Carle dedicated the book to his sister. From this quote you also notice that the book works with days of the week. It's brilliantly put together in a way that children can understand metamorphosis in a simple and interesting way.I enjoy the way that Carle put together this book.
Kids love seeing the holes in the pages where the caterpillar has eaten through. This is a good reinforcement for children just learning the days of the week.Carle puts a kid-friendly voice to the book, so whether an adult reads it to children or a child reads it on their own it comes through as a similar voice. In conclusion, I would strongly recommend this book to others of any age.
